man. I have spoken with many
of my fellow Morris dancers and there is a definite split in
the reasons they dance. Some who claim that Morris came down
through the ages as rituals that turn the cycle of mother
nature dance to bring luck to the people who live in their
town. Others who believe that Morris was performed by
villagers as a way to supplement their income during seasonal
hardship dance to keep the tradition alive. Morris has been
performed for kings and peasantry alike, and Shakespeare
mentioned it in many of his plays.
This ancient English tradition was rescued in the late 19th
Century by a chappie known as Cecil Sharpe. He saved it by
touring Great Britain and meticulously notating each dance as
well as its music. Now Morris teams dot the globe. There are
teams in exotic places such as Hong Kong and New Zealand and
there are so many teams in the western half of the USA, that
I'm surprised that California hasn't dropped into the ocean,
what with all that jumping, leaping and capering

September 11th 2001 is indeed
a black day in annals of humanity, a lot of life was lost in the
terrorist hijacking of four planes and their subsequent demise.
The Morris community lost 2 dancers during this time Christoffer
and Steve. I felt so much empathy I decided to put up a
sympathies page for our community to voice their sadness. You
